These were played March 2021.
So as I have started playing more of the MEC games, I realize doing a detailed review for each isn't realistic as they very much follow the same format BUT I thought I would combine mini update reviews touching on the story and set up. I have combined the games in groups for your reading pleasure. Please enjoy as I have 18 of these suckers to go through :)
Inspectors' Review:
Boss you solve this while I supervise right on this nice warm computer :P
Those magicians...they are trying to trick me here! I'm onto them!
And that wedding! Why was there no cake for me?!? I like chocolate (though boss says no).
Lots of paper!!
Yet boss kept rolling me off it...so here I languished!
Boss' Review:
Til Death do us Part
Technically ‘Til Death Do Us Part is the episode before Double Jeopardy but I didn’t realize there was an order until I was midway through Double Jeopardy. The premise of this game is that the bride was found murdered in her honeymoon suites hours after the marriage. There are rumours about the family and some interesting items found at the crime scene…including from Mr. X.
The story isn’t ground-breaking and some of the findings provided theories without necessarily saying if they prove anything. In some way this is more true to life as not every finding can be used as a fact in the case. These findings allow you to develop theories that you can follow through on and discover the true motive and suspect. That said, I still enjoyed the game and really enjoyed catching those easter eggs this time around. Playing this game reminds me of those action thriller movies – the ones that don’t necessarily rake in the 4 star movie reviews but for the public it is a good movie to eat popcorn over. Except my popcorn is a Pepsi and cats sprawled across my papers XD
Overall, a good game for a light evening of fun after a busy work day.
Vanished
The premise of this game is investigating two crimes – one the murder of an unknown man and the other a theft of s stolen painting from a well known magician. Are they connected? Are they purely coincidental? Well if you know MEC then you should know the answer.
While I admit I am quite quick at figuring our the story line when I first peruse the items, I usually have to dig in to actually find the suspect. Mr. X’s clue didn’t make a whole lot of sense to me initially. I enjoyed accessing people’s account (maybe that’s the snoop in me) and I admit the twist in the story was not what I was expecting (though I see how I was meant to get there).
Overall I enjoyed myself during this quick game (my standards of quick are hour long games :P) and interested in seeing what’s next.
In conclusion, these were light-hearted (as in they don't really dig into plot and character development too much) and easy to go through! If you can get them for a reasonable price and need something lighter for an evening then give these a try!
