Inspectors' Review:
This box is too tiny for me!
Is this a present for me???
Oh, straw!
Let me look at these papers in peace, please!
I can smell the Dust Bowls from here!
Come, read me a story, Boss!
Boss' Review:
After chronicling the journey of A Feather in Dust since the beginning, we have finally reached the conclusion of Boundless Library’s debut experience. What started as an attempt to bring together the lost chapters of an unfinished book turned into an explorative journey about fear and love in the backdrop of the 1930s Dustbowl.
In terms of story, I’ll mainly focus on thoughts about the end but I will attach my previous reviews below that will have more detail.
The ending was, in my opinion, a perfect way to draw to conclusion. The documents paint a poignant yet powerful message that brings meaning to the adventure. Bringing together these chapters revealed information not just about the character Alkonost but also the writer and her experiences in this new world she finds herself in. You find parallels between her life and her characters that aid in understanding what truly happened to lead to this unfinished novel. The audio logs online for this chapter provided a window into the world she lived in and the librarian finished with discussing what bringing these chapters meant and did for her and the author. She also summarizes some of the key information we learning over the course of these mailings to ensure all loose ends are tied. The paper documents themselves contained in the final mailing explore the impact of the author and her storytelling on those around them and they just made be smile.
As always, there isn’t much of a puzzle but I did succeed in identifying the last location from the last chapter leading into this one. I would like to point out I have been pointing out this place since the beginning so it was kind of cyclical to return to the first place I considered. This particular chapter, though, was more focused of the epilogue. There was no final mystery to unsolved which was a little sad but this is a story more than a puzzle.
I have said a lot about this experience before that doesn’t need repeating (ie. Customer service, criticism of puzzles, etc) but I want to end off that A Feather in Dust was a beautifully conveyed story with strong themes and messages for people to truly engage with. While I wish there was more engagement from participants that doesn’t negate to rich storytelling. I thoroughly enjoyed my time but I do hope the next adventure does make changes to improve player interaction.
